Through the work of textile artists Shelia Hicks and Anni Albers, students observe weaving and fiber as real objects and subjects. Students explore the theme of woven construction by creating a collar using color, pattern, and rhythm. The weaving represents the iconic collar worn by Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg, who made significant contributions to civil rights, women’s interests, and gender equality
Through the work of Dave Pilkey and Raina Telgemeier, students create a mini graphic novel. Students explore the theme of resilience by creating characters, graphic elements, storyboard, and develop a point of view to express their story of strength.
Through the ceramic artworks of Corine Adams, Zemer Peled, Barbara Hepworth, and the land preservation 300 Committee, students are inspired by textures, shape, and forms within the natural environment. Students discover the relationship between art and nature, by using the elements of art and principles of design to create a ceramic landscape tile that depicts their view of the conservation land within the community.
